J. C. Charyk Hockey Academy

“Every day is a great day for hockey.”
Mario Lemieux

The J.C.Charyk Hockey Academy’s mission statement is to enhance the educational and leadership experiences of student athletes while helping them attain their full potential character, sportsmanship, and hockey development. Since the program was created in 2008 there have been over 300 students in junior high and there have been over 120 high school students go through the program in those 12 years. Students have gone on to play at many levels ranging from minor and girls pond hockey through to midget AAA and junior.

The Junior high students work on all of the fundamentals of hockey including skating, passing, and shooting working all the way up to certain offensive and defensive situations that appear during a hockey game. In the offseason we work on basic dryland training with different off-ice activities to get the students ready for their season, as well as showing students ways to take their game to the next level.

The high school students work on their leadership abilities as they are responsible with organizing and running drills and a practice on their own. This helps the students understand what all it takes to be a coach and how to be ready to coach after high school.

Since the program began in Hanna, the Hanna Minor hockey programs have won 2 provincial gold medals, and have won 5 provincial silver medals. The program allows for students to get extra practice which has really elevated Hanna Minor Hockey's program to the next level.
